life sucks. when can I retire??

our freezer started having issues Thursday July 18. we noticed at night that the “frozen food” on top shelf and corresponding section of the door was not actually frozen. we took everything out of the freezer into coolers with ice packs. while I was at work that Friday, he worked on the freezer. it seemed good then, and we realized it was probably overpacked and couldn’t “breathe” to properly regulate its temp. jump to yesterday and it’s starting to not hold proper temp again. this am the freezer was at -0- and the fridge was at 40°  so he’ll be checking it again to see if the coil froze again. I don’t want to invest in a new fridge/freezer 😖  not only having to get the old one out & get the new one in, but also paying the cost (or pay plan) on a new one. this one is 13 or 14 years old now.

I’m really getting burnt out. I’m always tired. and this heat isn’t helping one bit. no vacation in sight. I have to at least get through August to Labor Day Monday. then there’s nothing until Christmas 🥺😳

still working those long hours..

even though she mentioned it’s an OSHA (or AAHA ?) “thing” not to work past 12 hours. the system just can’t be changed 🤨

I applied on that MetLife job that I had received multiple emails about. I even sent a follow-up email because I had heard nothing back. I chalked it up to being a scam but still checked online for any openings. last week I saw a listing similar to the job title and description that I’d received. the listing was from early 2023 and had expired. BUT then later last week I found a new job listing, slightly different job title but same description and requirements. I saved a copy for myself and then applied to it on Saturday. I also found a contact email for MetLife and forwarded my original email to them. so they could be aware there was a scam going around - but also to resubmit my resume a separate way so it ends up on their radar!

phew!! I started getting scared that I couldn’t actually do the job. and then there’s the whole interview process which I always hate l! I think I’ve lost out on many job opportunities just from the interview alone.

I had a dream last night that my mom’s friend’s boss (my mom’s old boss.. probably since dead by now) had asked me how things were going.. and that I probably needed a break.. and then had me working for him on my “break”.. but in the dream I had ditched that job, while I was also ditching this one. Gwen had woken me when Ron got up this a.m. and when he let them out she squealed her banshee yell. I finally fell back to sleep and had that dream and overslept but Ron woke me up right as I was texting a friend in my dream (since technology and cell phones don’t work properly in a dream…) it was so wonderful to be not going to any job that I was VERY disappointed at reality.

so.. I have found.. that I just can't last a whole day..

I get tired too soon, and it doesn't help when we stay late at work.

per the vet (and per OSHA requirements) we are not supposed to stay late anymore.. that lasted for about ~2 days~ and then we were staying late again.

Monday wasn't much of anything.. our afternoon got a little more clustered.. and we had a non-ringworm dog with horrible skin. bald spots, raw flesh.. he was also super skinny and just looked outright uncomfortable.  he is STILL a work in progress. he has had many antibiotics - and canned food (which he LOVES!!!)

Tuesday we went off the hill for a follow-up doctor appointment. after that we were going to go to the human services office to check on the ebt money. once we got there, the girl gave us the number "4".. and they were calling out "X359" and "Z237". no logic, or rhyme or reason.. so we left and went to buy a little bit of food. we had planned on going to a dollar general for soda and bread. couldn't find one so went to Winco and bought a small portion of necessities - got to the check out line, and indeed he had no money on his ebt card.

Wednesday was another emergency day.. poor old man puppy (10 years) had fallen over the weekend, hit is chin on the concrete driveway, and possibly fractured his jaw.. difficulty eating and drinking, and cries out when trying to move his jaw.. lovable sweetie through it all. we did surgery Friday. no fracture was found but he can't open his jaw very wide. and had many horrible teeth that were removed.

Thursday flew by like nothing!! I was a zombie and tried to keep busy. I took a 'small' nap that actually lasted 3-1/2 hours!!! I didn't want to sleep that long!! I still slept overnight and had difficulty waking up the next morning.. I overslept Friday (we both did) and never even got to make my coffee at work.. the appointments were just too busy.

Friday was thankfully a low-key day.. no emergencies.. but still very long and late. the lovable sweetie with the non-fractured jaw, was there very, very late, making it more than a 13-1/2 hour day..

I'm beginning to think that "job opportunity" I applied on was a scam. I never heard back from anyone, but had received multiple emails about it within a couple days of each other. I sent a follow-up email checking in, in case it is a valid job opening.

another survived week. takes a lot outta ya.

Monday, July 1st, Sarah went home early because she was sick. she thinks it was related to her RA. but that was also the first day of no emergencies. she feels it might be her fault so she took the blame for prior emergencies. but we were still scrambling about, being short staffed.

Tuesday was such a blur. catching up on some laundry and chicken care and a little grocery shopping

Wednesday was the day of emergencies. the first Wednesday of the month, we are always booked up in the morning with 80+ appts. then the afternoon is “regular” appointments.

our first emergency was a senior doggie. the neighbor was bringing him in for smoke inhalation and diarrhea- owner had passed away in a house fire overnight 😢 very sweet doggie, covered in soot. it was also determined by his odor that the owner was a heavy heavy smoker. the dog had a cough but that could also be attributed to cigarette smoke. our own dilemma was who was paying his bill, and who was taking over care for him.

our second emergency was another senior doggie. this one wasn’t scheduled strictly as an emergency, it was just because we were otherwise booked. but the owner dropped him off inside then went to her car for her purse. and he had explosive diarrhea in the lobby, was barely able to walk and kept falling into the diarrhea. it also didn’t help that our weather started to heat up last week so he was a bit in distress. might have been blind and/or deaf, and has separation anxiety so everything was dramatic ☹️  poor guy

our last emergency also wasn’t scheduled as such. the owner had been given emergency places to contact early in the week. but they waited until Wednesday to come to us. their cat’s eye was goopy and icky. the doctor had to determine if he even had an eye- it turned out he did not. owners were not able to afford a surgery to remove her, nor the antibiotics to get rid of the infection raging in his body. the cat was very senior so they made the tough decision to say “good bye”.

Thursday was 4th of July. but Ron’s back has been crippling since last weekend. and he forgot to defrost the rib eyes. so no bbq for us. just leftovers and lots of snacking

Friday was a hectic day just like any other hectic day. even our “good” days are swamped and overbooked.

Saturday we had a 3-week baby kitten. which gave us all the fun cutesy baby feels. but not before dealing with a super friendly lovable dog with RINGWORM. the family showed up with their 4 kids who have ringworm, the parents have ringworm, their other 2 long haired dogs most likely have ringworm, plus their senior adult cat. argh. that night, before leaving work, I had a major sneeze attack. allergy pills probably wore off so I was so miserable

so my Sunday was spent sleeping.. mostly.   but then I sat around. no exercise because I was too pooped out. another allergy attack in the afternoon.. sneezes and sneezes. oh how fun it is to be a menopausal woman because I peed my pants, peed in my desk chair. had to change my pants - twice 😖
