Monday, July 1st, Sarah went home early because she was sick. she thinks it was related to her RA. but that was also the first day of no emergencies. she feels it might be her fault so she took the blame for prior emergencies. but we were still scrambling about, being short staffed.
Tuesday was such a blur. catching up on some laundry and chicken care and a little grocery shopping
Wednesday was the day of emergencies. the first Wednesday of the month, we are always booked up in the morning with 80+ appts. then the afternoon is “regular” appointments.
our first emergency was a senior doggie. the neighbor was bringing him in for smoke inhalation and diarrhea- owner had passed away in a house fire overnight 😢 very sweet doggie, covered in soot. it was also determined by his odor that the owner was a heavy heavy smoker. the dog had a cough but that could also be attributed to cigarette smoke. our own dilemma was who was paying his bill, and who was taking over care for him.
our second emergency was another senior doggie. this one wasn’t scheduled strictly as an emergency, it was just because we were otherwise booked. but the owner dropped him off inside then went to her car for her purse. and he had explosive diarrhea in the lobby, was barely able to walk and kept falling into the diarrhea. it also didn’t help that our weather started to heat up last week so he was a bit in distress. might have been blind and/or deaf, and has separation anxiety so everything was dramatic ☹️ poor guy
our last emergency also wasn’t scheduled as such. the owner had been given emergency places to contact early in the week. but they waited until Wednesday to come to us. their cat’s eye was goopy and icky. the doctor had to determine if he even had an eye- it turned out he did not. owners were not able to afford a surgery to remove her, nor the antibiotics to get rid of the infection raging in his body. the cat was very senior so they made the tough decision to say “good bye”.
Thursday was 4th of July. but Ron’s back has been crippling since last weekend. and he forgot to defrost the rib eyes. so no bbq for us. just leftovers and lots of snacking
Friday was a hectic day just like any other hectic day. even our “good” days are swamped and overbooked.
Saturday we had a 3-week baby kitten. which gave us all the fun cutesy baby feels. but not before dealing with a super friendly lovable dog with RINGWORM. the family showed up with their 4 kids who have ringworm, the parents have ringworm, their other 2 long haired dogs most likely have ringworm, plus their senior adult cat. argh. that night, before leaving work, I had a major sneeze attack. allergy pills probably wore off so I was so miserable
so my Sunday was spent sleeping.. mostly. but then I sat around. no exercise because I was too pooped out. another allergy attack in the afternoon.. sneezes and sneezes. oh how fun it is to be a menopausal woman because I peed my pants, peed in my desk chair. had to change my pants - twice 😖
