January 31st 2021

earlier this month (or maybe it was last month?) I was googling how to clean my kitchen cabinets..
they have no knob pulls so the wood itself has nasty hand grease on it -- on top of the messy cooking grease that flies all over my kitchen.
so I searched hi-and-low for how to clean it.

I had found this technique..
but today, upon trying it, her instructions didn't quite work out for me..
not completely..
however I found a process that does work for me..
check this out!!

I used her paste with a dry baby wipe (instead of the microfiber cloth..) from a pack I've saved
(since someone I know tends to leave the package open...)
after letting that sit and soak a bit, I used these wipes to clean it off.

I LOVE these wipes!! they work so greatly!!
and I LOVE the pomegranate scent they leave behind..
you'd never know they are such a great cleaner from their scent, but they work really really well..
I use these wipes all over my kitchen.. they work great on all my counterspace!!

I fed the kitties their yummies.. and the doggies too..
and fed the chickens their grains..
now for some 'em' 'ee' me time

January 28th 2021

I went to work today. Ronnie gave me a ride, and I told him I'd see about getting a ride home.
once I got there, it was a hectic day.  Sarah worked, but Cat was off (Vera was at BVRSS for consult).. so it was Deann, Sarah, Sandy, Jax, and I..
I was so excited that our surgery was cancelled -- except that it wasn't. I had checked the schedule and it said that they weren't planning on doing a surgery.. and yet when I got there, our surgery was already there as well. ugh.. and DC didn't get there until almost 9:05.
2 appointments had canceled via Ruby so that was a bonus -- I mean, it was supposed to be the biggest snow-day of the storm.
I asked Sarah if she'd be able to give me a ride home.. she said she would if she could, but she'd planned to leave early due to the snow storm -- and DC might not let us BOTH leave..
6 appointments came in that I helped with.. and DC had brought 1 of her own dogs. but once they worked on prepping our surgery dog, I tried to focus on files for Friday, and grabbing files for Monday.
then an emergency came in :(

someone had called on Ruby.. stating that she was calling regarding the dog saved from a dog fight, and that she was forwarding our number to the lady who saved that dog. well, the owners showed up with said dog.
a strange dog got into their yard Tuesday, and both dogs started fighting -- and a neighbor separated the dogs with a box cutter.
then another story was mentioned that the owner tried to break up the fight and the dog bit the owner. so the neighbor broke up the fight with a box cutter..
later we heard, that someone showed up who the dog was not fond of and the owner jumped in to intervene and dog- bit, and neighbor- box cut..
I heard from coworkers that Jaime had mentioned this dog on Monday - that the incident happened Sunday, not Tuesday.
either way, the dog was messed up.. and once DC started shaving, his horrible wounds looked even worse!

so we ended up with 2 surgeries today.
A/C had shown up for emergency dog just before surgery started. DC told him they were prepping to go into surgery but she took a few pics to show him. that was pre-photos.. once he was tranquilized and shaved DC took more photos to show him. he had a rescue lined up as owners relinquished ownership.

towards the middle of our 2nd surgery, an admit arrived -- boxer limping, not weight bearing on 1 leg.. that added to our
and then closer to the end of our surgery, Lizette came in stating that Sandy and De Ann had been exposed to Covid -- DC immediately sent them home..
so now, we are now down even 2 more people..

Sarah of course did not get to leave early, too much chaos going on.
we both had not brought lunch. me- simply because I forgot it. Sarah- because she planned to leave early.. I ate 2 donuts, and the 2 granola bars I'd brought..

our last appointment of the day was a euthanasia.. 8year old cattle dog..
originally sounded like a healthy dog, who DC refused to euthanize.
but then once the dog arrived, legs were stiff, dog was lateral.
with all that was going on, DC was able to euthanize right away, still watching over our emergency dog to be sure he'd recover and was waking up alright.
the owners admitted and were going to bury at home.. then they decided to cremate.
in between surgery dog, and ISO puppy - the cattle dog passed on her own :(

so we ended up with 2 recovering surgery dogs and 1 limp-leg admit..
the limp-leg dog never did limp with us.. but upon xrays we found a FULL stomach (after not eating for 11 hours). owners admitted that was the reason they brought him in - he had eaten something..
DC told them to come back again in the a.m. and we'd re-xray to determine if his food had finally passed.
emergency dog was set up in the ISO shower kennel for rescue to pickup in the a.m.

when all was said and done, Sarah and I left at 9:07.
I was happy to finally get home in the blizzarding snowy weather.

January 27th 2021

today was colder. when I got up this a.m. the sun was out (it was bright out) but didn't seem to be snowing.
once I came upstairs, I saw that it was snowing.. but the wind was blowing it sideways so from downstairs you wouldn't see anything landing on the ground. I fed the kitties, and grabbed the bowl from the chickens. it was COLD out there! then the sun went away. so it got even colder.

I have an interview next Wednesday in Newhall. All Creatures Vet on Lyons. I don't know the pay..
and it's a "nights and weekends" thing so I probably should have turned it down. but once I get more info, I can always decline it in the future.

we did not get a whole lot of snow today. I heard that tomorrow should be the big day. I'm going to want to get a ride to and from work so I don't even have to deal with it. we were supposed to have a staff meeting in the a.m. but that has been cancelled. it will be too cold and icy. we will have our meeting during the day, lunch time probably, for those who are working that day. our surgery for tomorrow cancelled (the owners actually didn't schedule a surgery) and I'm hoping more people will cancel. if it's the storm of the century, nobody is going to want to go anywhere.

today I wore the same clothes I wore yesterday.. nobody saw me..
and they were clean when I put them on after my shower..
so another day won't do any harm.

January 26th 2021

I was dreading today..
it snowed all day long yesterday.. finally stopped around 7 pm, but was supposed to start up again at 11pm. I was thinking of my drive.. downhill.. bridges.. ice.
I was going to call in last night and leave a message that I may not make it in depending on road conditions. I never called. I had woken in the middle of the night (stupid wisdom tooth again..) and considered looking outside but was focused on trying to get back to sleep.
this morning, we woke up around 7:17.. lay around in bed until 7:45. that's when I look outside and saw freshly fallen snow and ice-white roads. so.. I called in "not going to be able to come today because of the roads" and then got into the shower.  grabbed clean sweats, clean long-sleeve t-shirt, clean sweater, clean socks.. ah... yeah.. roads still ice white.

I fed both kitties..
and the chickens...
and found a blue poo outside.
Gwen has been stealing the wrapper to the ham.
and that tells me she's been eating the wrapper..
ugh..

I watered all the plants.. and planted new peppers..
since the spider mites killed the last one :/
well.. the spider mites didn't.. the treatment did :(

I wish I could get a work-from-home job.
I LIKE being home.
I need to work on an at-home business.

1.2.3.2.1

can I just say-- my life sucks
I clocked out of work at 3:43..
I just got home at 6:13..
just now..
and I work 7 miles away.
I left work.. got about halfway and pulled off the road because a bunch of random cars ahead of me, had gotten stuck on the icy bridge and crashed into one another.
well, I'm pulled off the road - in the snow - so I got my snow chains out.
got frustrated because it's been a long time since I've used them.
a couple helped me get them on (I would have maybe figured it out eventually?)
so then I'm parked there because where would I go anyway.
a fire truck was on the main road next to me stopped to put his chains on.
a few "smart" people where passing him by, sliding around on purpose.
once he got his chains on and left, then I made my way turned around and went back to Don's Liquor gas station..
I called home to let Ronnie know what mess was up ahead and that I'd be late.
then I got back on the road -- which had been plowed -- so I didn't need my chains anymore.
I have nowhere on the right side to pull off and remove my chains. I pulled off to the left to remove my chains except, uh oh, there is snow there.. so I need my chains to pull out of my spot, but then wouldn't need my chains once I am out of that spot.
I got myself turned around -- again -- and drove in the shoulder of snow most of the way back past Don's Liquor gas station to the curb by the pharmacy.
did several "forward"-and-"backward" to remove my chains..
then it took awhile to pull away from that curb.
spinning tires, slight hydroplaning ๐Ÿ˜–
so back to Don's Liquor gas station I went..
that is where my car sits until I can go 'rescue it' ๐Ÿ˜ซ
** I will say.. the highlight of my miserable 2-1/2 hour, 7 mile drive home, was seeing a pretty cream colored standard poodle trotting through the snow near Don's Liquor gas station ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿค— made me want to get home to my goofy Gwen that much faster **
I was in tears out of sheer frustration. I just wanted to get HOME. I was cold, tired and wanted to be home already.
poor Ronnie had to come save me... with his swollen gout foot in a sandal (no tennis shoe or boot will fit) ๐Ÿ˜•

and my day started out wrong
because I planned to bring my snow boots in my car, so I'd be prepared in case there was a lot of snow by the time I left work.
I got halfway to work this morning and realized my boots were still by the coffee table -- so I had just completely jinxed myself to have cold feet

my finger isn't as painful. but it has its moments when it will just start throbbing.
today is 1 week and 1 day. I bought new band-aids that are 'sport series' and have extra padding.
but -- they seem to basically disintegrate in water. not that I'm trying to get them wet, but things happen.

I baked a bunch of cookies -- 2 packs of 2 dozen each..
so 48 cookies.. but we ate 2.. so that is 46..
just 3 packs to go..

January 10th 2021

today I tried to not wear a vet-wrap pillow around my finger..
bad idea.. bad bad idea..
I just bump it on too many things (gear shifter in my car for one) and it always hurts..
so now I am wearing a vet-wrap pillow again..

went to the pharmacy to get his Ivermectin. I have "regular" HealthNet HMO, and mine cost $40.80
his Ivermectin with MediCal HealthNet was not covered.. would have cost over $100.. so, no go..
I'm still waiting for my delivery from AliExpress, so I guess we'll keep waiting on that one.
the cool thing about the pharmacy one was that it was already dosed out..
we'll need to calculate the one from AliExpress.. and I paid a consult to get that prescription ๐Ÿ˜•

I made a new cleaning spray with an empty squirt bottle we had.
the spray bottle had already had been for vinegar - and the recipe used vinegar anyway..
so that made it easy.. water, vinegar, and 5 drops eucalyptus essential oil.

January 5th, 2021 - oww what a painfully miserable day

another fun-filled day of work.. my most favorite time of my day (not!!!)
I was late to work.. because when am I not..
we had 2 admit appointments.. one was a "for sure" dental/nail trim/spay (I had thought going in, that the spay was decided as a "no"..).. the other was a possible mastectomy for a 9 month spayed Westie.
I helped with initial appointments of the day.. then helped set up for first surgery. 2nd appointment ended up not as a surgery -- but our first appointment of the day turned into an admit, optional surgery.. hooray.

I had started pulling files for tomorrow (monthly non-anesthetic dental cleaning day) but was too busy getting called into the back so hadn't been able to start writing in them. I was helping with the surgery (dental/spay/nail trim) as well so got zero percent done of what I'd planned I would be doing today.

mid-surgery, I was sent to lunch.. okie dokie.. off I go. that's where the real fun of my day began. I was trying to open a can of Chef Boyardee raviolis but our can opener is dying..
you turn the spin-a-ma-thing, but the who-sie-what's-it doesn't move around the can and cut..
I was getting mighty impatient because I have zero time for lunch as it is. I grabbed my spoon and hit the can lid with the handle, figured I'd poke/bash it open.. well, not quite the case. sghetti sauce everywhere, and in cleaning myself, I discovered I was bleeding. argh..
I washed and washed with chlor-hexadine.. then quickly grabbed a Dollar General bandaid and went on my way back to work -- oh, I did eat.. with my left hand (I am evidently horrible at eating with my left hand)
I was crying on my way to work because it really did hurt.. bruised the "heel" of my hand as well.. both were quite painful. well, when I got to work, a couple girls saw my owl ๐Ÿฆ‰ band-aid and teary-eyed face. they said maybe I should see a doctor.. I said no, I think it is okay, I don't think I need any stitches.. went on to start those files for tomorrow. then as I'm searching for more files for tomorrow, one of the ladies comes out tells me, "DC was looking for you.. I told her you had hurt yourself.. and she said you should go to the doctor to make sure you don't need any stitches."  argh.. okay..

so I clock out and head to the doctor. it's just across the street. I didn't think stitches would be an issue.. but maybe antibiotics, just in case. I got my temp - perfect temperature.. and I told them I didn't have an appointment but wanted to get it checked - just in case. she was perusing my insurance info, and when she checked the HealthNet web site, I do not have any active coverage ((say wha?? I paid $155 to have coverage effective Jan 1st!)) I still had my sliding scale coverage from last May (covid testing) so that was what I used for today. $40 copay. she said they'd squeeze me in appointments but I might have a wait since I wasn't scheduled. I told her I totally understand, same thing happens where I work.
the doctor came in and looked at my hands.. he said no stitches, that's just a band-aid.. and no antibiotics necessary just clean with soap and water, and take ibuprofen for any pain. he did however say I should get a tetanus shot since I knew it was more than 6 years, but unsure of when my last one was. for tetanus, that comes under 'adult vaccinations' so I would only have to pay a tech injection fee of about $20.
ugh.. what a day.

I went back to work and everyone was amazed to see me. I guess they thought I was gone for the day.. really? I can? it was too late at that point. I worked on files for tomorrow. at that point I was discovering how difficult it was to write.. I'm right handed.. I hurt my right pinky, and heel of my right hand.. nearly impossible to write clearly and "beautifully".  took me pretty much the whole rest of the day.
we had an angry 'spicy' kitty for lab work.. very old and painful. no other "experienced" staff on hand to help so that meant me. she scratched my right index finger, and left thumb.. but I've already got my battle scars of the day.. so what's a few more? I also got poked a bit by the needle in all the struggle. didn't discover until I got home tonight.

when all was said and done, by 9:30 at night, my boss patted me on the shoulder and thanked me for 'coming back to get this all done'.. she patted my "tetanus shot" bicep  ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
