I went to work today. Ronnie gave me a ride, and I told him I'd see about getting a ride home.
once I got there, it was a hectic day. Sarah worked, but Cat was off (Vera was at BVRSS for consult).. so it was Deann, Sarah, Sandy, Jax, and I..
I was so excited that our surgery was cancelled -- except that it wasn't. I had checked the schedule and it said that they weren't planning on doing a surgery.. and yet when I got there, our surgery was already there as well. ugh.. and DC didn't get there until almost 9:05.
2 appointments had canceled via Ruby so that was a bonus -- I mean, it was supposed to be the biggest snow-day of the storm.
I asked Sarah if she'd be able to give me a ride home.. she said she would if she could, but she'd planned to leave early due to the snow storm -- and DC might not let us BOTH leave..
6 appointments came in that I helped with.. and DC had brought 1 of her own dogs. but once they worked on prepping our surgery dog, I tried to focus on files for Friday, and grabbing files for Monday.
then an emergency came in :(
someone had called on Ruby.. stating that she was calling regarding the dog saved from a dog fight, and that she was forwarding our number to the lady who saved that dog. well, the owners showed up with said dog.
a strange dog got into their yard Tuesday, and both dogs started fighting -- and a neighbor separated the dogs with a box cutter.
then another story was mentioned that the owner tried to break up the fight and the dog bit the owner. so the neighbor broke up the fight with a box cutter..
later we heard, that someone showed up who the dog was not fond of and the owner jumped in to intervene and dog- bit, and neighbor- box cut..
I heard from coworkers that Jaime had mentioned this dog on Monday - that the incident happened Sunday, not Tuesday.
either way, the dog was messed up.. and once DC started shaving, his horrible wounds looked even worse!
so we ended up with 2 surgeries today.
A/C had shown up for emergency dog just before surgery started. DC told him they were prepping to go into surgery but she took a few pics to show him. that was pre-photos.. once he was tranquilized and shaved DC took more photos to show him. he had a rescue lined up as owners relinquished ownership.
towards the middle of our 2nd surgery, an admit arrived -- boxer limping, not weight bearing on 1 leg.. that added to our
and then closer to the end of our surgery, Lizette came in stating that Sandy and De Ann had been exposed to Covid -- DC immediately sent them home..
so now, we are now down even 2 more people..
Sarah of course did not get to leave early, too much chaos going on.
we both had not brought lunch. me- simply because I forgot it. Sarah- because she planned to leave early.. I ate 2 donuts, and the 2 granola bars I'd brought..
our last appointment of the day was a euthanasia.. 8year old cattle dog..
originally sounded like a healthy dog, who DC refused to euthanize.
but then once the dog arrived, legs were stiff, dog was lateral.
with all that was going on, DC was able to euthanize right away, still watching over our emergency dog to be sure he'd recover and was waking up alright.
the owners admitted and were going to bury at home.. then they decided to cremate.
in between surgery dog, and ISO puppy - the cattle dog passed on her own :(
so we ended up with 2 recovering surgery dogs and 1 limp-leg admit..
the limp-leg dog never did limp with us.. but upon xrays we found a FULL stomach (after not eating for 11 hours). owners admitted that was the reason they brought him in - he had eaten something..
DC told them to come back again in the a.m. and we'd re-xray to determine if his food had finally passed.
emergency dog was set up in the ISO shower kennel for rescue to pickup in the a.m.
when all was said and done, Sarah and I left at 9:07.
I was happy to finally get home in the blizzarding snowy weather.
