January 5th, 2021 - oww what a painfully miserable day

another fun-filled day of work.. my most favorite time of my day (not!!!)
I was late to work.. because when am I not..
we had 2 admit appointments.. one was a "for sure" dental/nail trim/spay (I had thought going in, that the spay was decided as a "no"..).. the other was a possible mastectomy for a 9 month spayed Westie.
I helped with initial appointments of the day.. then helped set up for first surgery. 2nd appointment ended up not as a surgery -- but our first appointment of the day turned into an admit, optional surgery.. hooray.

I had started pulling files for tomorrow (monthly non-anesthetic dental cleaning day) but was too busy getting called into the back so hadn't been able to start writing in them. I was helping with the surgery (dental/spay/nail trim) as well so got zero percent done of what I'd planned I would be doing today.

mid-surgery, I was sent to lunch.. okie dokie.. off I go. that's where the real fun of my day began. I was trying to open a can of Chef Boyardee raviolis but our can opener is dying..
you turn the spin-a-ma-thing, but the who-sie-what's-it doesn't move around the can and cut..
I was getting mighty impatient because I have zero time for lunch as it is. I grabbed my spoon and hit the can lid with the handle, figured I'd poke/bash it open.. well, not quite the case. sghetti sauce everywhere, and in cleaning myself, I discovered I was bleeding. argh..
I washed and washed with chlor-hexadine.. then quickly grabbed a Dollar General bandaid and went on my way back to work -- oh, I did eat.. with my left hand (I am evidently horrible at eating with my left hand)
I was crying on my way to work because it really did hurt.. bruised the "heel" of my hand as well.. both were quite painful. well, when I got to work, a couple girls saw my owl 🦉 band-aid and teary-eyed face. they said maybe I should see a doctor.. I said no, I think it is okay, I don't think I need any stitches.. went on to start those files for tomorrow. then as I'm searching for more files for tomorrow, one of the ladies comes out tells me, "DC was looking for you.. I told her you had hurt yourself.. and she said you should go to the doctor to make sure you don't need any stitches."  argh.. okay..

so I clock out and head to the doctor. it's just across the street. I didn't think stitches would be an issue.. but maybe antibiotics, just in case. I got my temp - perfect temperature.. and I told them I didn't have an appointment but wanted to get it checked - just in case. she was perusing my insurance info, and when she checked the HealthNet web site, I do not have any active coverage ((say wha?? I paid $155 to have coverage effective Jan 1st!)) I still had my sliding scale coverage from last May (covid testing) so that was what I used for today. $40 copay. she said they'd squeeze me in appointments but I might have a wait since I wasn't scheduled. I told her I totally understand, same thing happens where I work.
the doctor came in and looked at my hands.. he said no stitches, that's just a band-aid.. and no antibiotics necessary just clean with soap and water, and take ibuprofen for any pain. he did however say I should get a tetanus shot since I knew it was more than 6 years, but unsure of when my last one was. for tetanus, that comes under 'adult vaccinations' so I would only have to pay a tech injection fee of about $20.
ugh.. what a day.

I went back to work and everyone was amazed to see me. I guess they thought I was gone for the day.. really? I can? it was too late at that point. I worked on files for tomorrow. at that point I was discovering how difficult it was to write.. I'm right handed.. I hurt my right pinky, and heel of my right hand.. nearly impossible to write clearly and "beautifully".  took me pretty much the whole rest of the day.
we had an angry 'spicy' kitty for lab work.. very old and painful. no other "experienced" staff on hand to help so that meant me. she scratched my right index finger, and left thumb.. but I've already got my battle scars of the day.. so what's a few more? I also got poked a bit by the needle in all the struggle. didn't discover until I got home tonight.

when all was said and done, by 9:30 at night, my boss patted me on the shoulder and thanked me for 'coming back to get this all done'.. she patted my "tetanus shot" bicep  😱

What A Day !¡!¡
