is this what my life has become?
last time of work before Labor Day Weekend. a Monday off work so that means a 4-day weekend. oh the excitement. next chance will be late October - although, I think the 2 weeks before that are 'better' too.
MONDAY
Monday I woke up with a sore throat. but the 'fun' started before that. I had woken up at 4. I really had to pee but didn't want to get up because it would take hours to fall back to sleep. I woke up again another time, tossing and turning but trying not to wake Ronnie up. then I heard the Dude barking.. far away.. outside.. opened my eyes and saw that Ronnie wasn't even in bed.. and the sun was already coming up. just before 6. so I went back to sleep. next thing I knew, it was 7:54 😲
I got to work and rushed around to catch up with everyone else. my heart was pounding. and I forgot my coffee.
shortly after our first appointment got there, we had a walk-in. 4 month kitten, difficulty breathing.
next was a specialized test. I brought the dog in back for her blood pull. took her all the way back up front to the owner - forgetting that she needed an injection as part of her test.
then there was a cat for a thyroid test and eye exam- I remembered the eye exam and grabbed the eye pack - BUT I didn't check the flurescein stain so another 'oopsie'.
we had an add-on exam for a doggie who had pups. she came to us a couple weeks ago for confirmation of pregnancy because the mobile vet said she was not pregnant. yep, we said she was, 5 or 6 puppies.. she had 5 babies early Sunday morning.. 17 hours later she had 2 stillborn so she came in for brucellosis test. Cat called to confirm they were coming, and to advise of the ISO protocol. momma had 2 more pups early that morning, but another was stillborn. so 6 total babies
I was actually supposed to be doing client cards for mailing.. and calling my insurance company.. but she had me doing appointments 🤷 then wehn Cat gave me a client to work with, DC got mad.. um.. huh?
I made a new fluorescein stain.. but I wasn't supposed to 🤦
I made it to lunch.. just barely.. Amanda noticed as well that DC was really on my case. I was getting ready to go to my lunch when the client walked in for the 2nd blood test. I went in back to tell someone - but both Cat and Sarah were gone. so I got to clean ISO from the momma doggie, then I held the dog for her blood test.. THEN I went to lunch.
we had 3 add in appointments that day. and 2 more emergencies. the 2nd was a husky-mix who was vomiting and had black diarrhea. the 3rd was a jack russell with cough, hack, snot..
then we ended the day saying goodbye to a long-time patient. we were all in the room for that one. petting her and giving her love for her final moments. when a pet dies, they could twitch.. they could vocalize.. they could pee or poop.. she did all the things ðŸ˜
then I finished working on Wednesday files.. I was missing 3 files which doctor had.
I waited for awhile.. we still had a client there waiting.
once they left, I just gave up and left after 12.70 hours.
TUESDAY
hooray.. a moment of peace. I woke up at 10:20.. I actually could have slept longer but don't wanna lose my own personal day. thankfully when I got home Monday night, Ronnie was still up. he was sleeping on the couch when I prepped for work Monday morning.. he'd gotten up when I left, but he lay back down until noon. so he actually had a little energy when I got home. we went to bed shortly thereafter.
I watched all the main Toy Story movies.. movie series day.
the Wednesday surgery cancelled so our day was open - open for more appointments 😖
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday morning, I didn't pee in the toilet in our bedroom because there's a resident spider IN THE TOILET! but once I cam upstairs I did my bp routine (bp, heart rate, spo2, sleep). then ate breakfast. doctor has messaged me Tuesday night for more eggs so I made sure to pack up some good ones for her. it was also the start of avon campaign 18 so I sent my emails, and prepped my books, and updated my FB page. again, rushing around to get to work at a reasonable hour. but once I'm there, there's no time to make my coffee - or pee!!!
I finally took the chance 4-1/2 hours after waking up. there were clients in what we call the 'comfort room' saying their 'good byes' to a dog. that was at noon..
we had a walk-in at 10am stating she was told to be there at 10. dog was 'adr' and had an ear infection. that turned into an emergency. it was more than just 'adr' she couldn't walk. vomiting. diarrhea. sensitive abdomen. she was transferred into ISO while we did our procedures and treatments. parvo test negative - yay! but still don't know what is wrong. we did blood work and xrays. xrays showed her stomach was very deformed - and she really had to pee (I feel your pain, girl!) due to the oddness of her stomach, we did an ultrasound, but no cystocentesis. doctor syringed the urine out of her bladder. we had gotten to 150 ccs, ultrasound still showed exactly the same.. so we kept on going - a total of 336 ccs!
after lunch - whereby I was baking in my car 🔥 I worked on our next appt. as I was walking into that ISO appointment, the walk-in abdo dog was seizuring. they got her seizure to stop, and kept her on ekg and bp machine.. the doctor scoped her vulva to search for any blockage that would cause her to not be able to pee. nothing found. she was kept on her IVs.
this 2nd ISO patient was a cat who had a possible foxtail in his nose. the owner had noticed a cough or sneeze but that morning her daughter saw he had a snotty nose. Sarah and I started to try to pull blood. he was not happy. growling and trying to struggle (no scruff to hang on to). we had to stop that vein and try another. luckily Tami was still there after helping with the seizure (she had only come to pick up her dog food that was delivered...). Tami took over holding the cat for the other vein draw. he wasn't thrilled about that either. slashed out at Sarah scratching her hand.
then we had another walk-in.. again.. an 8 week kitten vomiting and lethargy and inappetence. the cutest little bugger named Johnny Cash. the hared part was pulling blood on him and getting xrays. at 1# 3oz he was smaller than all of our equipment.. seemed so cruel. we got it down however.
I pulled mostly all of Friday's files. many were progress exams from Wednesday.. some others were surgeries scheduled from Wednesday's appointments. the walk-in abdo seizure dog was with us all day. her owners came to sit with her while doctor made calls. the owners couldn't really make any decisions. they weren't ready to say good bye, but no money for big procedures.. the husband left with the 2 kids while the wife still stuck around. once the dog was ready to discharge, the wife left (around 10:45?).. that meant we could finally move the deceased dog in the comfort room 😳
I was waiting for my last files for Friday.. but that wasn't happening. I finished my faxes.. and a few other files I'd been stuck with.. then everyone went home.. 11:40 😫
THURSDAY
Thursday was another movie series day... Fantastic 4.. and Incredibles..
not much else.. 🤷
